Sunday

Today's the first Sunday of the new year, and the 2nd Sunday of the 12 Days of Christmas.  It is very appropriate that our host today is my sweet friend Korin, owner of Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps.  Korin is committed to exalting Christ, and she has designed lots of wonderful Christian stamps to encourage others in  their Christian walk.

Cocoa is one of the cutest critters you'll find over at SNSS!  I absolutely adore this darling mouse, especially all dressed in traditional Christmas red!  Korin's challenge is to make a card featuring a nice hot beverage that will chase away the winter chill!

Here's the prize for today's challenge:  a digital image of Cocoa that you can print and color in any size you like!

You have until January 9th to participate in any of the 12 challenges - or all of them! You can upload your card to the Splitcoast Gallery and tag it with the keyword: DD12days09.

Saturday

Happy New Year!  Hopefully you had a wonderful evening ushering in the first day of 2011!  The beginning of a new year heralds a fresh start full of hope and anticipation.  It is a time of reflection, re-evaluation, and goal-setting for many!  Thus, today's challenge, for the first day of the New Year, the 8th Day of Christmas...brought to you by Tricia and Meredith of Lizzie Anne Designs!  Tricia's challenge is to make a card based on your New Year's resolutions. For today's challenge, use keyword DD12days08.

My resolution is to be more serious about treasuring my time.  For me, that encompasses a lot of things.  I want to be more deliberate about how I spend my time, to focus more on the time I spend taking care of my spirit, mind, and body, to savor the time I spend with my family and friends, and to do my best to avoid being caught in a time crunch with deadlines and commitments.

Today's card, made with a brand new single, Wise Man's Treasure, from Lizzie Anne, will serve as a reminder of those things...the vintage style will help me to remember to look to the future with a remembrance of the things of value from the past...and to make wise choices accordingly.

The prize for today's challenge includes this brand new single along with the other Lizzie Anne single that is being released today, Love You a Latte.

You have until midnight January 9th to upload your creations to SCS.  Winners will be announced here on January 10th.

Friday

Happy New Year's Eve!  For today, the 7th Day of Christmas, my friend Kate, owner of i {heart} papers, is hosting our challenge and providing an amazing prize, a silver and white goodie bag containing silver Stickles, a silver Spica pen, silver Liquid Pearls and assorted silver and white ribbons!

Kate has a tradition on her blog each week called "Five Minute Fridays."  Her challenge to you today is to create a clean and simple card:  one color, one metallic and one neutral.  For her card, she used OCL’s White Christmas set, stamping the tree and greeting in Palette Seascape and the snowflakes in New Canvas.  She added some silver Stickles to the tree and to the snowflake centers and then some silver sheer ribbon (layered with some white satin).  Her main image is cut from a Rectangle Nesties.

Upload your creations to SCS using keyword DD12days07.  You have until midnight on January 9th to play any or all of the challenges.  Winners will be chosen and announced on Monday, January 10th.  Woo-hoo!

Have a wonderful evening tonight ringing in 2011.  Be safe and have a great weekend!

Wednesday

Today is the 5th day of Christmas...and today's challenge is hosted by Flower Soft and my friend Jeanne, the Flower Soft design team coordinator.  Jeanne has challenged us to the theme of Winter Chill.  Just look at the adorable winter scene she created!  How appropriate, since so many friends and relatives have been snowed in recently!

Our team participates in a weekly Flower Soft Sprinkle Challenge each Wednesday, and so today many of our designers are playing along with the Winter Chill challenge...you can see their creations by visiting the Flower Soft blog and hopping from one design team member's blog to the next.

Look at the fantastic prize package that Flower Soft is offering! This is a great sampling of the products Flower Soft offers.

Create your Winter Chill scene, and upload to SCS using the keyword DD12days05.  You have until January 9th to complete any or all challenges.  Prize winners will be announced on January 10th.

The five golden rings that were given on the 5th day of Christmas signify the Torah or Law, the five books of the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible.

Tuesday

It is the 4th day of Christmas, and today's challenge is hosted by my beloved friend and design team mate Kendra Wietstock, who is the design team coordinator for Our Craft Lounge.  Her challenge is to make a project inspired by a Christmas Song Title.

The prize for today's challenge is OCL's beautiful White Christmas set, which she used for both of today's projects.

Here is another sparkling project using the snowflake tree from the set.

I love Kendra's simple yet elegant style and am always amazed with the fabulous ideas that she comes up with!  She is such a versatile stamper, and an ultra organized coordinator, which really makes things run smoothly for our team.  Thanks so much, Kendra, for your patience and encouragement!  You are a great example for me in both Life and papercrafting, and I love ya!

And in keeping with our theme song:  on the 4th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me 4 calling birds...which are said to represent the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Upload your creations to SCS using keyword DD12days04. You have until midnight on January 9th to play any or all of the challenges. Winners will be chosen and announced on Monday, January 10th.

Sunday

Blessed Sunday and 2nd Day of Christmas!  If you missed yesterday's post introducing our 12 Days of Christmas challenges, scroll down to read yesterday's post to find out more!

On the 2nd day of Christmas, my true love gave to me two turtle doves...which are said to represent the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.

Today's challenge is hosted by my friend and design team mate Dina Kowal...the prize package comes from her good friend Sue at Heart and Soul Rubber Stamp Co.!  Sue believes that it’s possible to make a difference in someone’s life by sharing your time and talents with those around you - maybe even an eternal difference by sharing God’s Word with them! Heart and Soul has a wide selection of rubber stamps, including some of Dina's favorite encouraging sentiments and verses (a few designs by Dina too, if you look around!).

If you visit the Heart and Soul website, it will be no surprise to you that Sue's favorite color is purple! Purple is also known as a color of royalty, and a beautifully appropriate color for Epiphany, the celebration of the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus.  Soooooooo, our challenge to you is to create a Christmas card incorporating the color purple. You will receive a bonus entry if you use the same colors Dina did: purple/eggplant, olive green, and grey!

Dina's card uses a beautiful Amaryllis stamp from Heart and Soul - the amaryllis is a beautiful bulb flower that blooms at Christmas time. She used colored pencils to color in the image.  Look how gorgeous her shading and blending are!

The color names noted below are the specific pencils that she used - yours don't have to be exactly the same!

Dini, what a blessing you are to me!  Thank you for hosting today's challenge!

Here's the beautiful prize that Sue from Heart and Soul Rubber Stamps is providing for today's challenge winner!  Thank you for being so generous!

You have until January 9th to participate in any of the 12 challenges - or all of them! You can upload your card to the Splitcoast Gallery and tag it with the keyword: DD12days02.

Saturday

Merry Christmas on this First Day of Christmas!  I hope you are enjoying a wonderful holiday!

Not long ago, my friend Bev mentioned the 12 Days of Christmas in a post on FaceBook.  Both of our families enjoy celebrating this extended version of Christmas, which lasts from December 25th through January 5th.

Celebrating the Twelve Days of Christmas is not without its practical advantages.  In our house, the tree and all our decorations stay up until the day of Epiphany, January 6th, which some people call Kings' Day or Little Christmas.  All of the hustle and bustle of everyday life is usually at a standstill during the week between Christmas and New Year's...we're taking a break from homeschooling, music lessons and Bible study.  With the house still so festive and some extra time on my hands, it is a great time to get ahead on some cards and gifts for next Christmas.

Since I grew up in southwest Louisiana, there are cultural observances for the Twelve Days too.  The last night, Twelfth Night, ushers in the Mardi Gras season, with its extravagant costumed balls and decadent King Cake which is rich in symbolism.  This season lasts from Epiphany through Mardi Gras, "Fat Tuesday," the day before Ash Wednesday when Lent begins.

You would have to live on another planet to have not heard the famous Twelve Days of Christmas carol.  Maybe you've also heard that the carol was a catechism to teach children the precepts of their Christian faith...whether the story is historically accurate or not is insignificant for me!  I love the correlations that have been made between the gifts of the 12 days and the things of faith that are precious to me.  The partridge in a pear tree given on the first day of Christmas is a symbol of Jesus Christ..."for unto us a child is born."  We joyfully celebrate his birth on Christmas Day.

Bev's FaceBook post and my desire to get started on cards for next year prompted an idea...and after running it by her, we've decided to do it!  We are going to host some challenges for the 12 Days of Christmas, right here on The Daily Dare!  The idea started small, but quickly grew to include lots of great stampers, stamp companies and prizes, and so we are hoping that you are going to get excited about it and celebrate the Twelve Days with us by playing along!

For each day there will be a challenge and also a "gift."  Each challenge will have its own individual keyword to be used for uploading your project to the gallery at SCS.  The deadline for submissions is midnight on Sunday, January 9th.  That gives you a few extra days to play!  Winners will be chosen (one for each challenge) and announced on Monday, January 10.

Your entry makes you eligible for the prize of the day, and you can play any or all of the challenges you want.  You can upload as you go (more fun for the rest of us) or you can play them all and upload them all at once before the deadline.  Doesn't matter, so long as you have uploaded your card before midnight December 9th.

Since today is Christmas Day, the first day of Christmas, and Santa is exhausted after an all-night, around-the-world sleigh ride, the sleigh is empty and Santa's snugly tucked in bed.  The challenge for today is KISS:  Keep It Simple, Santa.  Here's what you need to do...use a recycled item, one simple image, and a non-traditional Christmas color.  Upload your sample to SCS using the keyword DD12days01.

My project recycles the gift bag that I received just last night from my friend Seth.  It features a sleigh from OCL's Reindeer Games, and the companion sentiment from Reindeer Pun.  The prize for today is the surprise inside (valued ~$20).  This is the only prize that will remain secret until it is received, because that's the way Christmas gifts work and it IS, after all, Christmas Day!

Can't wait to see what you come up with!  And please, spread the word!  We'd love to see lots of entries and help lots of people get ahead for next year in the process!  :)

Now, here are your usual Saturday challenges!
